Troubleshooting
Problem
A registry error may cause some ODBC drivers to not be available when creating new data sources.
The 64-bit drivers are available for download now. They were created to support the 64-bit version of Access 2010. Due to this, Tally.ERP 9 (which acts as the ODBC Server) will not be able to communicate with MS Excel and hence data will not be exported. Now, to enable data export, a driver is to be installed.
Resolving The Problem
Caution: This document discusses making changes to the Windows registry with the registry editor, regedit. Before using this tool to make any changes to your registry, back it up, and make certain you understand how to restore the registry if a problem occurs. Consult Microsoft's knowledge base and help system for information on using regedit, regedt32 registry editor programs. |
We have had some reports of PCs on which a data source could not be created using the iSeries Access for Windows ODBC driver because, although it is installed, it does not show up in the list of ODBC drivers available in the ODBC Administrator. Existing data sources using the ODBC driver can be used, modified, and saved without any problem though. Investigation of the problem revealed a problem in the Windows registry which may have been caused by some software setting a specific driver to be the default driver and then resetting it to a blank or empty value. The entry this left in the registry caused every driver installed after that time to not be displayed by the ODBC Administrator.
When this problem is encountered, an export of the registry key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREODBCODBCINST.INIODBC Drivers] typically looks similar to the following:

'Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)'='Installed'

The entry @=' is the problem. All entries after that fail to be displayed. To correct this problem, do the following:1. | To start the Windows registry editor, click Start, Run, type regedit, and click OK. |
2. | Navigate to the path HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREODBCODBCINST.INIODBC Drivers, and click on this key to display the strings it contains. |
3. | At the top of the right pane, you will see an entry named (Default) of type REG_SZ. The Data value for this will be empty or blank rather than (value not set). |
4. | Right-click on the (Default) string, select Delete from the pop-up menu, and press Yes on the confirmation window. |
5. | Press F5 to write the registry changes to disk, and exit the registry editor. |
6. | You may need to reboot your PC before you will be able to create new DSNs using any of the ODBC drivers which were missing. |
Note: This issue has been frequently associated with FileMaker software and ODBC drivers; however, it is not limited to just that software package.
